THE RISE OF R.D.


Dil Kumar Shrestha, a seasoned professional with years of experience in the corporate world, always harbored an entrepreneurial spirit. Despite having a stable career, his ambition extended beyond simply holding a job—he believed in the importance of creating employment opportunities for others. This vision of becoming a job creator, rather than just an employee, deeply resonated with him.

However, like many aspiring entrepreneurs, he wasn’t immediately sure where to begin. The turning point came in 2015, when he and a colleague from a well-established IT company in Nepal decided to explore and experiment on a new venture. Recognizing the growing potential of the IT market, they combined their expertise and resources to establish R.D. Suppliers P. Ltd. The partnership between Ramesh and Dil Kumar gave birth to R.D. Suppliers, marking the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey. This venture not only fulfilled Dil Kumar’s dream of entrepreneurship but also laid the foundation for a company dedicated to providing innovative IT solutions to businesses in Nepal.

In its inaugural year, R.D. Suppliers achieved a remarkable business turnover of 7 million Nepali rupees, showcasing the entrepreneurial success of Dil Kumar and Ramesh despite limited resources and funding. Their second year brought even greater achievements, with an astonishing 700% growth, and from that point on, they never looked back.

Introducing UGREEN

As R.D. Suppliers expanded, they recognized the importance of establishing their own brand presence in the market. This led them to introduce UGREEN, a renowned global brand of computer accessories, to Nepal. UGREEN, known for its high-quality products at affordable prices, started with a simple yet essential product—a converter cable from HDMI to VGA. What began with a single product soon grew into a vast portfolio. Today, R.D. Suppliers imports over 200 SKUs from UGREEN, ranging from computer and mobile accessories to lifestyle products. In those early days, we were the ones who successfully established the market for branded accessories in Nepal with UGREEN.

UGREEN has now become the number one accessories brand in Nepal in terms of volume, solidifying R.D. Suppliers’ reputation as a leader in the market and showcasing the company’s ability to adapt and grow alongside the evolving needs of consumers.

Lesson Learned

Following their success with UGREEN, R.D. Suppliers sought to expand their portfolio by introducing Pincoy, a brand specializing in portable SSDs. However, this venture did not go as planned. The product quality and supply chain issues proved to be significant challenges, preventing the brand from gaining traction in the market. Recognizing these setbacks, Dil Kumar and his team made the strategic decision to discontinue their association with Pincoy.

The King of Storage

Undeterred by the experience, R.D. Suppliers soon shifted focus to a globally renowned brand in the storage industry—Kingston. In 2017, they became the sole distributor for Kingston in Nepal, bringing a comprehensive range of storage solutions to the market. Known as the “king of storage devices,” Kingston quickly gained a strong foothold, thanks to its reliable products and exceptional reputation.

What sets Kingston apart is its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, offering a three-year replacement guarantee on all its products. This level of trust and assurance has made Kingston one of the leading brands in Nepal’s storage device market, further solidifying R.D. Suppliers’ position as a trusted distributor in the IT sector.

Aspirations

R.D. Suppliers is set to expand its brand portfolio in the near future. Several new brands are already in alignment and are scheduled for launch in early 2025, primarily focusing on the computer and mobile accessories segments. With plans for diversification, R.D. Suppliers aims to achieve stronger business growth in 2025.
