KP Sharma Oli Hints at Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Return as Prime Minister

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stirred the political arena with his recent remarks, hinting at the possible return of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the next Prime Minister.

Speaking at a public event, Oli commented, “शेरबहादुर जि पाँच पटक प्रधानमन्त्री हुनुभो… अब मौका वहाँलाई जुर्छ, अब फेरि जुर्नेवाला छ… मैले १४ महिना पछि फेरि शेरबहादुर जि लाई प्रधानमन्त्री भनेर किस्तीमा राखेर बाकाइदा धुमधाम संग हस्तान्तरण गर्छु… वहाँलाई आइहाल्छ ।” (Translation: “Sher Bahadur ji has already served as Prime Minister five times… Now it’s his turn again, it’s going to happen soon… After 14 months, I will hand over the premiership to Sher Bahadur ji in a formal and grand manner… It’s coming his way.”)

His remarks come amid growing political realignments and speculations about a possible shift in coalition dynamics. While Oli did not provide details on what the “14 months” timeline signifies or whether it implies a political agreement or prediction, his words are being interpreted as a strategic message ahead of potential government changes.

Sher Bahadur Deuba, a veteran political leader and five-time Prime Minister, currently leads the Nepali Congress, the main opposition party. The statement from Oli has raised questions about backdoor negotiations, coalition possibilities, and future power-sharing deals.

Political analysts believe that Oli’s comments could be part of a broader strategy to shape public opinion and influence upcoming political developments. However, leaders from both CPN-UML and Nepali Congress have yet to officially respond to Oli’s statement.

As Nepal’s political landscape remains fluid, the coming months will likely be crucial in determining the balance of power and leadership transitions within the federal government.
