Chinese Diaper Sold as an ‘Australian Brand’ in Nepal: The Cocoon Buds Scam Exposed

Chinese Diaper Sold as an ‘Australian Brand’ in Nepal: The Cocoon Buds Scam Exposed

A new form of consumer fraud has entered the Nepali market. Previously, counterfeit versions of well-known brands were common, but now a new trend has emerged—creating an entire fake brand from scratch. One such case currently making headlines is “Cocoon Buds Australia,” a baby diaper brand accused of deceiving Nepali consumers and risking infant health.

The story behind this brand is surprisingly simple: believing that anything labeled “Australian” will sell easily, the importers created an elaborate plan.

How the Fake Brand Was Built

  • Register a small company in Australia

  • Create a brand under that name

  • Copy the packaging design of a popular diaper in Nepal

  • Hire staff and target the same dealers

  • Pay influencers to promote it as an “Australian diaper”

The plan looked perfect—and thus Cocoon Buds was born. But the truth is very different.
The brand does not even have a registered trademark, making it a fake brand from the start.

Not Australian at All — Just a Chinese Diaper Sold with an Australian Label

Official records reveal:
Cocoon Buds Australia has no production, no operations, and no R&D in Australia.
Its business activity is limited to importing diapers from China and selling them in Nepal as an ‘Australian’ product.

Even worse, the so-called Australian diaper displays a United Kingdom flag on its packaging.
This is a blatant misuse of a national flag, potentially damaging Nepal’s diplomatic relations with both the UK and Australia.

The ‘Australian’ Website Is Actually Nepali

The brand’s website exposes more inconsistencies:

  • The “.au” domain shows a Nepal address

  • The Facebook and Instagram links redirect to Nepali pages

  • The site is developed and hosted in Nepal

  • No Australian office, no call center, no physical presence

The website even displays: “Welcome to Cocoonbuds Nepal.”
Their own website fails to hide the deception.

The Australian Company Was Formed After the Nepali One

Another shocking detail:
The so-called parent company in Australia was registered on 1 July 2025.
But the Nepali company was registered earlier on 26 June 2025.

Meaning—the child company was born before the parent company!
A clear sign of reverse-engineered brand fraud.

Influencers and Their Double Standards

Some influencers are paid to promote Cocoon Buds as a “premium Australian diaper.”
Yet the same people use genuine premium diapers for their own children.

Promoting a fake brand for money while risking other babies’ health raises serious ethical concerns.

Serious Crime: Fake Dermatest Certification

Cocoon Buds has printed the Dermatest® Germany logo on its packaging.
Dermatest certification is granted only after clinical testing on human volunteers supervised in Germany.

However—
Cocoon Buds has never undergone any such testing.

This amounts to:

  • Consumer fraud

  • Trademark violation

  • Endangering infant health

  • International certification misuse

Conclusion: A Web of Lies Behind an ‘Australian’ Diaper

Cocoon Buds Australia is found to have:

  • No registered trademark

  • Chinese-made diapers sold as Australian

  • Misuse of the UK national flag

  • Fake Dermatest logo

  • No real operations in Australia

  • Nepali website disguised as Australian

  • Suspicious company registration timeline

This case highlights a dangerous trend in Nepal—fake foreign branding designed to exploit trust and compromise infant health.

Relevant authorities must now investigate under:

  • Consumer protection laws

  • Trademark and advertising regulations

  • Child health and safety standards
